How Can I add a clear filter to my Sony DSC-HX100V?

by MATT

I am looking to put a clear filter on to protect the lens, but I can’t find the size or length to get.

Please help!

Answer:

The reason you cannot find the size of filter to get is that the Sony DSC-HX100V does not have threads on its lens to allow you to easily add a filter. That means that in order to be able to add a filter to the Sony HX100V you will need to purchase an after-market filter adapter.

These adapters are made out of either plastic or aluminum and are made to fit snugly over the lens body on one end and have a threaded filter adapter on the other end. Once mounted on the camera you can then thread a standard filter onto the adaptor and now your Sony’s lens is protected like you want.

I have seen a couple of different styles of these lens adaptors for sale on the internet. They normally will allow you to add either a 58mm or a 67mm filter to your Sony DSC-HX100V. I have not personally tested these adapters so I cannot speak to how well they work but I will provide links for a couple that I have found for sale online.

One word of caution is that you should be careful about adding too much additional weight to the lens of your super-zoom camera no matter what brand it is. This is because adding too much weight could cause potential damage to your lens or zoom motor.

Sony HX100V ADAPTER RING
by: Paul

Hi all, I just came across this blog and thought I would post a comment to let you all know about this HX100V ADAPTER RING that I have just bought from them. It allows you to attach 58mm filters, macro lenses and lens hoods. To get one just visit their website http://www.hx100vadapter.com They are based in the UK and they ship world wide. I have found that using this adapter ring really steps my camera up to the next level. Just being able to fit a clear UV filter to protect the lens from getting damaged is a must! I have just bought a Raynox DCR-250 macro lens and I'm experimenting with macro photography and of course macro video in Full HD! If you decide to get one I hope you will have as much fun using it on your camera as I am.
